WELCOME TO THE SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VIRGINIA WEBSITES;
Bruce P. Saunders (Mrs. Carl R. Saunders)
I live in Franklin, Va.
Member of Southampton Historical Society
Member of Suffolk - Nansemond Historical Society
I answer genealogy inquires for Franklin/ Southampton, and Suffolk/ Nansemond County, Va.
All obituaries are from The Tidewater News, Franklin, Southampton County, Va.
We digitized all of the Southampton Courthouse books from 1749 to 1880 and indexed them with every man, woman, child and place mentioned. This was done by Ken Brantley of the Georgia Brantley Association with help from volunteers.

I'll be glad to send any links not working. Don't use this site for Southampton or Franklin cemeteries.!!
We have a genealogy website with over 350 members, you can post pictures, questions and more to the Group. I also post new sources for the area and when we're going to have meetings.
The Surname List on this site shows who is working on what families and is a great place to find cousins and share genealogy. FREE always.

I've started putting old obituaries on-line, so far over 4600. These are coming from the Tidewater News, Suffolk News Herald and the Virginian Pilot. I've been asked not to put anything newer than 1990. I have or can get most of those as well for the Virginian Pilot or Tidewater News.
From the Tidewater News, I've done from 1906 - 1955 (many early years have missing dates) I've also done 1960-1962, 1965-1971, 1980-1983 and 1987 not all are posted yet but send me an email for any not posted.
Additions are welcome. This is an on-going project. MATT HARRIS is our webmaster Zoobug64@aol.com
